Sanctions and harassment against children’s ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova are signs of the dehumanization of liberal dictatorships, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. “Who would have thought 15 years ago that in the West, taking care of children, saving them and caring for them would become criminally punishable. But everything was going in this direction. The preliminary chamber of the International Criminal Court, whose jurisdiction Russia does not recognize, issued an arrest warrant on March 17 against Russian President Vladimir Putin and children’s ombudsman Maria Lvova-Belova. Zakharova also stressed that Russia is not a party to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and has no obligations under it. “Russia is not cooperating with this body, and any arrest ‘receipts’ coming from the International Court will be legally null and void for us,” she added.
