Voting begins across Kazakhstan in parliamentary elections

On the whole territory Kazakhstan Polling stations were opened for voting in the extraordinary elections of deputies to the Majilis (lower house of parliament) and the maslikhats (local representative bodies). The secretary announced the start of voting in the parliamentary elections in the republic Central Election Commission Reports by Mukhtar Yerman RIA News.

At 7:00 a.m. Astana (04:00 Moscow time) polling stations have opened in most regions of Kazakhstan. At 8 a.m. (5 a.m. Moscow time), voting in the parliamentary elections began in the western regions – Atyrau, Aktobe, Kyzylorda and Mangystau regions.

“According to the operational data provided by the regional cities of Almaty, Shymkent and Astana commissions, 10,146 polling stations across the country and 18 polling stations in representative offices of the Republic of Kazakhstan in foreign countries have started voting,” Yerman said during the briefing.

According to him, 59 foreign polling stations will start voting taking into account the time difference. Voting will end on the territory of the country at 8:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. Moscow time). In western regions, stations will close an hour later due to jet lag.

January 19 President Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev dissolved the lower house of the parliament of the republic. He expressed his gratitude to the deputies for their active work.
