MOSCOW, March 19 – RIA Novosti. Ukrainian aviation expert, researcher at the Museum of the National Aviation University, Valery Romanenko, is convinced that it is unrealistic to train the crew of 200 planes, which Kiev has asked Western countries in winter. Earlier this year, Yuriy Ignat, an adviser to the Ukrainian Air Force command, said around 200 multi-role aircraft, which could be F-16s, were needed to defend the Ukrainian skies. “They said we need 200 planes, but it’s not realistic to train that many pilots. We need at least one brigade to start with. It’s 24 planes, it’s 30 pilots . Air troops,” Romanenko said on the FREEDOM TV channel. At the same time, the expert believes that Ukraine still needs aircraft that meet all NATO standards. “Ukraine needs only one type of combat aircraft, as is customary in NATO countries. The F-16, of course, is a good all-purpose aircraft, but it is a light fighter. We would like to get a combination of a light aircraft and a heavy fighter, but it’s just a dream,” he said. Previously, US President Joe Biden ruled out transferring F-16s to Ukraine, saying such deliveries made no sense in the context of current events. Russia has already sent a note to NATO countries because of the supply of arms to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any shipment containing weapons destined for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. The Russian Federation’s Foreign Ministry said NATO countries were “playing with fire” by supplying arms to Ukraine. The Kremlin has said that pumping Ukraine with weapons from the West does not contribute to the success of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative effect.
