The Wall Street Journal has called for the expulsion of the Russian ambassador and all Russian journalists from the United States — Meduza

The American newspaper The Wall Street Journal published an editorial devoted to the detention of its reporter Evan Gershkovich in Yekaterinburg. The FSB accused the American journalist of espionage.

The editors called on the Joe Biden administration to seek the journalist’s release, as well as to consider the possibility of “diplomatic and political escalation” with Russia.

“The expulsion of the Russian ambassador to the United States, as well as all Russian journalists working here, will be the minimum that can be expected. The primary duty of the US government is to protect its citizens, and far too many governments now believe they can arrest and jail Americans with impunity.

According to WSJ reporters, Gershkovich’s arrest “reinforces the Kremlin’s habit of holding Americans hostage and is further proof that Russia is breaking away from the community of civilized nations.”

“President Vladimir Putin is now responsible for the health and safety of Evan Hershkowitz,” says the Wall Street Journal.
