WASHINGTON, March 15 – RIA Novosti. The United States, thanks to its allies, has the ability to recover fragments of its fallen drone from the bottom of the Black Sea, if such a decision is made, said Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Earlier, Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, spoke of the intention to search for the remains of the MQ-9 Reaper drone. “We have allies and friends in this region. We currently have no vessels in the Black Sea…If there is reason to believe that we can raise something, then we will work out options for consideration by the Minister (of Defense) and the President”, – said Milley at a press conference at the Pentagon. Milley pointed out that technically finding and raising the debris, even if it survived after the fall, is a “very difficult” operation, since we are talking about depths of four to five thousand feet (1.2-1.5 kilometers ). The Russian Defense Ministry reported that on Tuesday morning an American MQ-9 drone with turned off transponders violated the borders of the zone of the temporary regime for the use of airspace over the Black Sea. The drone was heading towards the Russian border, Russian fighters were lifted into the air to identify the intruder. Following sudden maneuvers, the drone went into uncontrolled flight with a loss of altitude and fell into the water. The Russian fighters did not come into contact with the MQ-9, did not use airborne weapons and returned safely to their home airfield, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
