MOSCOW, March 18 – RIA Novosti. On Saturday and Sunday, March 18 and 19, at the NA Rimsky-Korsakov Palace of Culture in Tikhvin, Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Theater will present two operas by the composer: The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and The Maiden Fevronia and The Office of press of the theater The Night before Christmas. The action is dedicated to the birthday of the musician. “The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevronia” directed by Alexei Stepanyuk premiered this year. The costumes were created by Irina Cherednikova. The main parts will be performed by Irina Churilova (Fevronia), Nikolai Gassiev (Grishka Kuterma), Stanislav Trofimov (Prince Yuri), Alexander Trofimov (Prince Vsevolod), Maxim Daminov (Fyodor Poyarok) and Svetlana Karpova (Otrok). Valery Gergiev is at the conductor’s podium. The maestro underlined “the wonderful opportunities and the very special atmosphere of the Tikhvin stage, where the public can fully enjoy the exceptional scores”. Gergiev also “noted the need to perform the works of the greatest Russian composers in their homeland,” they say at the theater. The opera “The Night Before Christmas” is based on the story of the same name by Gogol. This show has just been relaunched. The Mariinsky Theater said: “The premiere of a new, more spectacular stage version which retains the best features of the 2008 production (director Olga Malikova, set design by Ksenia Pantina, costumes by Varvara Yevchuk)” took place in January 2021. The melody is based on authentic Christmas carol tunes. With Mikhail Vekua (Blacksmith Vakula), Natalya Pavlova (Oksana), Yulia Matochkina (Solokha), Oleg Sychev (Chub), Alexander Morozov (Chef), Andrey Zorin (Devil), Vitaly Yankovsky (Panas) and Alexander Timchenko (Diak). Conductor – Valery Gergiev Earlier it was reported about the premiere of the play “Amadeus” at the Vakhtangov Theater.

“The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevronia” directed by Alexei Stepanyuk premiered this year. The costumes were created by Irina Cherednikova.

“Stepanyuk’s new production is an edition of his 1994 performance, adapted for modern audiences, but has not lost its metaphorical spirit, philosophical spirit and other characteristics that made the previous production so successful”, explain the theatre.
