The International Criminal Court in The Hague issues an arrest warrant for Vladimir Putin — Meduza

The International Criminal Court in The Hague has issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin. The corresponding press release is published on the Court’s website.

Putin is suspected of having illegally deported children from the occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia. As the court explained, there are “reasonable grounds” to believe that Putin is personally responsible for this.

A similar arrest warrant was issued against Maria Lvova-Belova, Commissioner for Children’s Rights to the President of the Russian Federation.

The New York Times March 13, citing sources writingthat in the near future, the ICC will open two trials against Russian officials for alleged crimes in Ukraine: one for the deportation of Ukrainian children, the second for deliberate attacks on civilian infrastructure. In the context of these reports, the Kremlin recalled that Russia does not recognize the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court.
