MOSCOW, March 31 – RIA Novosti. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg welcomed the decision of Turkey’s Mejlis (parliament) to ratify Finland’s accession protocol to the alliance. The Majlis vote took place on Friday night. Turkey became the last of 30 NATO countries to vote on Finland’s membership. “I welcome the vote of the Turkish parliament, which completes the process of ratifying Finland’s membership. This will make the whole #NATO family stronger and safer,” Stoltenberg tweeted. Finland and Sweden, in the context of the events in Ukraine in May last year, submitted applications to the NATO Secretary General for membership in the alliance. By early 2023, 28 out of 30 NATO countries had approved both bids, but Hungary and Turkey wanted to consider the Swedish bid separately from the Finnish bid.
