NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg hails Turkey’s decision on Finland’s joining the alliance

General secretary NATO Jens Stoltenberg welcomed the decision of the General Assembly Turkish Parliamentwho approved the request Finland join NATO. He wrote about it in his Twitter-account.

According to Stoltenberg, the decision of the Turkish side “will make the whole NATO family stronger and safer”.

Old Turkish Parliament ratified Finland joins NATO. 276 votes were cast for the ratification of Finland’s accession protocol to the North Atlantic Alliance. Deputy Speaker of Parliament Haydar Akar, after announcing the results of the vote, congratulated the country and its people.

Finland and Sweden deposit applied for membership of the North Atlantic Alliance in May last year. In July 2022, NATO member countries signed protocols for the accession of two Scandinavian countries. They will only be able to join the alliance after all NATO member countries have ratified the accession protocols.
