On Wednesday, at a regular meeting of the Primorye Legislative Assembly, deputies adopted an amendment to the Election Code, which bars self-declared candidates from participating in gubernatorial elections. The deputies considered the question “On amendments to the Election Code of the Primorsky Territory”, including the said amendment. “The Election Code of the Primorsky Territory establishes that the direct nomination of a candidate can be carried out by self-nomination, nomination by an electoral association. The amendment proposes to change the Election Code of the Primorsky Territory, providing that a candidate to the post of governor can only be nominated by a political party,” he said at the meeting, Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Primorye Dzhambulat Tekiev. Deputy Yevgeny Lyashenko recalled that five years ago, regional parliamentarians made changes to the regional electoral code, allowing self-proclaimed candidates to participate in the election of the governor of Primorye. MP Andrei Andreichenko, who proposed the new amendment, replied to his colleague that “it is necessary to emphasize the role of political parties, to increase it”. “These are gubernatorial elections, State Duma elections. If a person represents a political force, he must be associated with this political force, and therefore the political system here only needs to be developed.. If a person cannot agree with several dozen political parties that we have and are registered”, then, probably, he should not submit his candidacy. There are no restrictions for anyone. Everyone who can participate will participate … Suffrage is not violated here,” Andreichenko noted. 24 deputies voted for the introduction of amendments to the Primorye Election Code, taking into account the amendment of the decree, 11 deputies voted against, there were no abstentions.
