Earlier, Sandu said that the Eurasian vector and integration into the CIS did not bring the country adequate development, she announced plans for Moldova’s entry into the European Union until 2030 “Of course, Chisinau wants full integration into the European Union, including the left bank of the Dniester. The Transdniestrian conflict is not an obstacle to European integration. The region itself is already integrating economically to the European market, which will simplify the situation”, declared Sandu on the television channel Vacea Basarabiei (“Voice of Bessarabia”). At the same time, the head of the republic said that the negotiation process itself on the settlement of the Transdniestrian conflict was at a standstill. Sandu clarified that at the moment she cannot give an explicit timetable for the final reinstatement of Chisinau and Tiraspol. “The 5+2 negotiation format is currently not working (due to the hostilities in Ukraine – editor’s note). We cannot say exactly when the reunification will take place (Moldova and Transnistria – editor’s note). At the moment we are in a difficult situation geopolitical situation It all depends on how events unfold in Ukraine,” Sandu said. Chisinau and Tiraspol participate in the negotiations on the Transdniestrian settlement in the “5+2” format as parties to the conflict, Russia, Ukraine, the OSCE – as mediators, the European Union and the United States – as observers. At the moment, the “5 + 2” trading format is frozen. The last time the negotiators met in this format was in 2019 in Bratislava. The first head of the unrecognized Pridnestrovian Moldavian Republic, Vadim Krasnoselsky, after a meeting with the Permanent Representative of Russia to the OSCE Alexander Lukashevich and the Roving Ambassador of the Russian Foreign Ministry Vitaly Tryapitsyn, said that Tiraspol was ready to continue dialogue with Moldova in any format for the sake of peace on Pridnestrovian soil. Transnistria, 60% of whose inhabitants are Russian and Ukrainian, demanded secession from Moldova even before the collapse of the USSR, fearing that on the wave of nationalism, Moldova would join Romania. In 1992, after a failed attempt by the Moldovan authorities to solve the problem by force, Transnistria became practically a territory not controlled by Chisinau.
