SIMFEROPOL, March 18 – RIA Novosti. Acting governor of the Kherson region Volodymyr Saldo in his Telegram channel thanked Crimea for supporting the Kherson region both in the rear and in the front. The Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol celebrate on Saturday the ninth anniversary of joining Russia following the March 16, 2014 referendum. According to him, the reunification of Crimea with Russia marked the beginning of the path of reunification of the lands of the southern Russia with Russia, which is now followed by the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. “I’m sure that all other regions of historic Russia will follow him,” Saldo said. Crimea became a Russian region in March 2014 following a referendum following a coup in Ukraine. In the 2014 referendum, 96.77% of voters in Crimea and 95.6% in Sevastopol favored joining Russia. Ukraine still considers Crimea as its temporarily occupied territory, many Western countries support kyiv on this issue. For their part, Russian leaders have repeatedly stated that the people of Crimea voted for democratic reunification with Russia, in full respect of international law and the UN Charter.
