MOSCOW, March 31 – RIA Novosti. Satellite internet at the North Pole will appear in 2026 thanks to the Russian Skif spacecraft, the press service of the non-profit partnership Glonass told reporters. It is worth noting that specifically to solve this problem, the satellites of the “Skif” space system will be launched into an orbit at a height of 8070 kilometers above the Earth. On their basis, high-speed Internet access, telephony and Internet of Things services will be provided. The press service clarified that at present there is practically no Internet at the North Pole. The US system only allows you to talk on the phone and send short text messages. Moreover, it only works on a special satellite phone. If you combine several of these devices, you can connect to an expensive and very slow Internet. Specialists and experts plan to discuss possible options for working with Internet Service Providers using the Sphere multi-satellite constellation on April 13 at the Sphere Congress in Moscow. The Skif-D technology demonstrator was launched into orbit on October 22, 2022 on a Soyuz-2.1b rocket from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome. Eight full-fledged satellites are planned to be put into orbit in the future. They will be part of the “Sphere” multi-satellite orbital constellation.
