DONETSK, March 16 – RIA Novosti. Acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s statement on Damascus’ recognition of the borders of the Russian Federation with the annexed regions said that the DPR highly appreciates the position Syria’s firm and consistent. Earlier, the Syrian President, in an interview with RIA Novosti, said that Damascus recognizes Russia’s new borders with the territories that joined following the results of the referendums: the DPR, LPR, Kherson regions and Zaporozhye. Assad recalled that Syria had recognized these regions even before they joined Russia. “We highly appreciate the strong and consistent position of the President of the Syrian Arab Republic Bashar al-Assad, which he expressed in his statement on the recognition of the borders of the Russian Federation, taking into account the results of the referendums on the annexation from the territories of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions,” Pushilin wrote in his telegram channel. He also noted that warm and friendly relations have developed between Syria and the DPR. “As a subject of the Russian Federation, we aim for the active development of cooperation with Syria, the priority being the systemic nature of our socio-economic partnership,” Pushilin added. The referendums on the entry of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions into the Russian Federation were held from September 23 to 27, 2022. According to the results of processing 100% of ballots in the DPR , 99.23% of those who voted for joining the Russian Federation, in the LPR – 98.42%, in the Kherson region – 87.05%, in the Zaporozhye region – 93.11%. On September 30, Putin spoke in the Kremlin following the results of the referendums in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, after which he signed agreements with their leaders on the admission of regions in Russia.
