PARIS, April 11 – RIA Novosti. Protesters blocked French President Emmanuel Macron from speaking at the Nexus Institute in The Hague, shouting slogans criticizing French domestic politics, according to video shared by BFMTV. Macron arrived in the Netherlands on Tuesday. In the afternoon, he was to speak on the economic and industrial sovereignty of Europe, but several dozen demonstrators did not let the president speak. According to the published images, the demonstrators shouted from the stands the phrases: “Where is French democracy?”, “The climate convention is not respected!”, “You have millions of demonstrators in the streets! “. They also unfurled banners with the words “President of violence and hypocrisy”. After that, those in the room began to applaud the activists. The video also shows security guards walking towards them. Macron assured the audience that he could “answer all questions about what is being discussed in France, about the laws we pass”. “It’s a democracy, and democracy is exactly where you can protest and allow yourself that kind of performance,” he said. Macron said that in his view “the French should be much less annoyed” by the pension reform, because “in the Netherlands, as in many other European countries, the retirement age is well above 64 “. Protests have been taking place in France since January against an unpopular pension reform that would raise the retirement age from 62 to 64. Thursday, on the eve of the final decision of the Constitutional Council, which will determine the fate of the bill, will take place the twelfth national action. On March 16, French Prime Minister Elisabeth Born took advantage of article 49.3 of the constitution to pass the bill without a vote in parliament. On April 14, the Constitutional Council of France must announce a decision on the compliance of the bill with the standards of the legislation in force in the country. If approved, the law will come into force on September 1.
