PARIS, March 15 – RIA Novosti. During the protests against the pension reform in Paris, clashes between radicals and law enforcement began, the police used tear gas, reports the correspondent of RIA Novosti. Black bloc radicals began destroying bus stops, setting fire to garbage cans and building barricades. They also dismantle metal maintenance barriers and smash store windows with them, then throw firecrackers and garbage bags inside. In one of the offices there was an employee who was sprayed with broken glass. The police were forced to use tear gas. In Paris, as in many other French cities, the eighth wave of protests against the pension reform takes place on Wednesday. Several tens of thousands of people gathered for the action. A column of demonstrators under the flags of all the main trade unions in France will march from the esplanade near the Palais des Invalides to Place d’Italie. There are many young people and representatives of the anti-capitalist movement and “yellow vests” in the ranks of the demonstrators. The participants chant the slogans “We can win!”, “The workers have the strength”, “Retirement at 60!”. On the posters of the participants one can read: “Money – for wages and pensions, and not for the war or in the pocket of the shareholders!”, “Long live the Parisian garbage collectors!”, “Macron and Bourne despise democracy French”, “Increase pensions, not the retirement age”. The main demand of the demonstrators is to lower the retirement age to 60 years. The French are skeptical of the explanations of the authorities on the need for reform, explaining it by the lack of budgetary funds for the payment of pensions. They are convinced that France should distribute wealth more fairly and impose a tax on excess corporate profits, as well as stop increasing the military budget. French Prime Minister Elisabeth Born introduced a bill on January 10 that would raise the country’s retirement age and abolish “special” schemes for a number of difficult professions. According to her, the authorities will start raising the retirement age in the country by three months a year from September 1, 2023. Thus, in 2030, it will reach 64 years. The reform provoked a wave of protests in French society. In two months, seven national strikes have already taken place in France, against which the unions have organized hundreds of demonstrations. Most of them brought together more than a million participants across the country. The protests have been accompanied by pogroms and clashes between law enforcement and protesters. On March 11, the French Senate approved the pension reform project proposed by the French government. On March 16, a vote on the text of the bill will take place in the National Assembly of France (lower house of parliament). If the lower house also supports the reform, then the increase in the retirement age will be fixed at the legislative level and will come into force in six months.
