MOSCOW, March 16 – RIA Novosti. The Russian Federation’s human rights commissioner, Tatyana Moskalkova, said staff from her office had met in Geneva with the UN Deputy High Commissioner for Refugees, Gillian Triggs, and UNHCR had commented positively the activities of the office in this direction. According to her, her office staff spoke at a work meeting with evacuees from the DPR, LPR and Ukraine, more than 5 million of whom arrived in Russia in 2022-2023, as well as from interaction with UNHCR representatives in Russia, including during a joint evacuated visit to TAPs, providing them with targeted humanitarian assistance. “UNHCR has responded positively to our activities and has expressed its readiness to expand the areas and forms of interaction,” Ms. Moskalkova added. A large-scale evacuation of the civilian population began from the Donbas republics against a background of worsening in mid-February last year. Subsequently, Russia recognized the independence of the DNR and LNR. Following the results of the referendums of September 2022, the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions became subjects of the Russian Federation.
