Monopoly board games are sold out in Russian stores — Meduza

In Russian stores there was a shortage of Monopoly board games, reports RBC.

According to the publication, the classic version of Monopoly is no longer available at Mosigra network outlets, as well as at specialty Hobby Games and Intellect-Toy stores.

Also, in one of the stores of the Mosigra chain, journalists were informed that the stock of the game was sold out almost immediately after the New Year, and no new deliveries were expected. At the same time, the Intellect-Toy store said it had already placed an order with suppliers, but it was unclear when it would be finalized.

According to RBC, Monopoly is still in stock at Detsky Mir, but these are 2022 stocks. Additionally, special editions of the game, such as Monopoly USSR, are still available at select stores.

Additionally, the game can be purchased from Ozon and Wildberries, however, as RBC notes, they mostly sell kits at an inflated price or non-original, substandard production.

The American company Hasbro, the copyright holder of Monopoly, halted deliveries to Russia shortly after the start of a full-scale war in Ukraine. A similar decision was made by Mattel – it produces the Uno game.

In March 2022, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce alight goods from Hasbro and Mattel to the list of parallel imports. However, RBC was informed in the press service of Detsky Mir that in this case the mechanism will not work, since the games require translation into Russian.

Parallel import has already been running for six months in Russia. Is it the same as smuggling? Did he save the country from a deficit? Have the prices of drugs and iPhones increased?
