MOSCOW, March 31 – RIA Novosti. The German armed forces have already spent all the budgetary funds allocated for the purchase of spare parts for military equipment this year, according to the Business Insider portal, citing sources from the department of equipment, information technology and operation of the Bundeswehr. The Bundeswehr’s budget this year amounted to 51 billion euros, of which nearly 5 billion euros were allocated to the purchase of spare parts for military equipment. According to the source, this money has already been spent after only 64 days since the beginning of 2023, and the army command has already informed the Ministry of Defense. It should be noted that the funds were spent on large military equipment, uniforms and ammunition. In response to a request from the publication, the Department of Defense said the information on military equipment spending “in the current situation relates to the interests of state security.” The Bundestag and the Bundesrat in June last year, by a majority vote, backed German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’ February initiative to create a €100 billion special fund for the Bundeswehr. Thus, the German armed forces, according to the Chancellor, can be considered the largest regular army in Europe. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, in an interview with German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung, said that Germany would not have enough defense funds of 100 billion euros. He highlighted the emergence of new service costs. Later, the German magazine Spiegel reported, citing its own information, that Pistorius wanted to increase the annual budget of the Bundeswehr by 10 billion euros per year.
