MOSCOW, March 18 – RIA Novosti. Ukrainian IT company Starlink has won a lawsuit against SpaceX, which demanded to drop the company’s name, local media reported. It is reported that at the beginning of March, the Kiev Economic Court rejected a request from SpaceX for early termination of the registration of a Ukrainian company – the namesake of the American Starlink. In November, Ukrainian media reported that the American company SpaceX had filed a lawsuit against the Ukrainian company Starlink and Ukrpatent with a request for premature termination of the registration of a trademark whose name coincides with the name of Starlink, a subsidiary from SpaceX. At the same time, it turned out that the Ukrainian Starlink was registered in 2011, and the application for registration was filed a year earlier, in 2010, while the “daughter” of the American SpaceX called “Starlink Ukraine” had started to register a trademark. in Ukraine only in 2020. The media, referring to the words of the founder of the Ukrainian company, previously reported that representatives of the American company contacted him in 2021 with a request to abandon the brand. The owner of the Ukrainian “Starlink” left the possibility of negotiations with SpaceX, but on condition that the latter compensates his company for the losses associated with the abandonment of the brand. Starlink is a next-generation satellite network designed to provide high-speed Internet access anywhere in the world. The project was launched by SpaceX in February 2018. During the period of martial law in Ukraine, the use of satellite terminals of Starlink system subscribers was allowed for all categories of users.
