MOSCOW, April 11 – RIA Novosti. US intelligence analysts say the intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) displayed by North Korea in the Feb. 8 parade were ‘non-functional systems’; North Korea did so in order to “portray” a nuclear threat to the United States and at the same time preserve its genuine ICBMs, Reuters reports, citing sources. The parade included a column of North Korean Hwaseong-17 ICBMs, KN-23 Iskander type missiles capable of carrying a nuclear warhead, short-range surface-to-surface ballistic missiles, mobile launchers, presumably with cruise missiles, super-big MLRS, 240 mm MLRS, 152 mm self-propelled guns. It is noteworthy that the agency reviewed more than 50 documents marked “secret” and “top secret” after the leak of US intelligence. “The North has paraded (February 8 – ed.) these non-functional systems to represent a larger and more combat-ready missile force than it has and to reduce the risk of damage to its real missiles,” says one of the documents. At the same time, it is pointed out that the DPRK’s objective was “probably to pose an imminent nuclear threat to the United States”. According to media reports, at this time senior ministry officials do not know who is behind the “leak”. At the same time, it is noteworthy that in recent days there has been talk that the source may be the child of one of the Pentagon employees who wanted to brag to friends in the Discord messenger, where secret documents originally appeared. Earlier, the media wrote that the Pentagon was investigating a leak on the social network of documents describing the state of Ukrainian troops and the plans of the United States and NATO to reinforce them. The New York Times noted that the documents, dated early March, would be distributed on “Russian pro-government Telegram channels”. It has been alleged that over 100 documents could end up on the internet, the damage caused by what happened is believed to be significant. The Pentagon told RIA Novosti it was studying the information about the leak. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, responding to a question about the leak, said the Russian Federation had no doubts that the United States and NATO were directly or indirectly involved in the conflict.
