More than 35 police officers were also injured during the riots, according to the French interior ministry. More than 150 organizations and parties rallied against the construction of the reservoir on Saturday in Sainte-Solin, France. The demonstration quickly degenerated into violent clashes between demonstrators and police. Protesters used Molotov cocktails and pyrotechnics. In addition, protesters set fire to at least four law enforcement vehicles. The police used grenades to disperse the demonstrators. For the construction of a reservoir with an area of 700 thousand square meters for the needs of agriculture in the city of Sainte-Solin, it is planned to combine 16 smaller reservoirs. Local farmers note that this measure will benefit large-scale agricultural production, while small farms will be left without water, as the record-breaking drought in the summer of 2022 showed.
