MOSCOW, March 15 – RIA Novosti. Latvia began providing military assistance to Kyiv even before the Russian Federation launched a special military operation in Ukraine, Latvian Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins wrote in a letter published by the Financial Times. “We started providing military assistance to Ukraine before the start (NVO) in February (2022). Stinger anti-aircraft missiles from Latvia were among the weapons the Ukrainians used in the early days of the fighting,” Karins said in a letter. Russia has been carrying out a special military operation in Ukraine since February 24, 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin called its task “the protection of people who have been victims of intimidation and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years.” According to the President, the ultimate goal of the operation is the liberation of Donbass and the creation of conditions guaranteeing the security of Russia. Russia has already sent a note to NATO countries because of the supply of arms to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that any shipment containing weapons destined for Ukraine would become a legitimate target for Russia. The Russian Federation’s Foreign Ministry said NATO countries were “playing with fire” by supplying arms to Ukraine. The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noted that pumping Ukraine with weapons from the West does not contribute to the success of the Russian-Ukrainian negotiations and will have a negative effect. Lavrov said that the United States and NATO are directly involved in the conflict in Ukraine, “including not only the supply of weapons, but also the training of personnel…in the territory of Great Britain, Germany, Italy and other countries”.
