The international community must convince Ukraine and its sponsors of the need to return to the negotiating table to resolve the conflict, this must be based on the recognition of the real situation “on the ground”, said the vice-president of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev. “It should not be about mediation between the parties to the conflict, but about the fact that the international community should convince the Ukrainians or their sponsors that it is necessary to return to the negotiating table on the basis of the recognition of the real situation that has developed on earth,” the politician said during a briefing on the platform of the “Russia Today” media group. The senator emphasized that until relevant progress is made, “the special military operation will continue.” At the same time, he stressed that “it is not our choice”. Kosachev noted that there are now more than enough mediation proposals to resolve the conflict, “so far there is no program for such mediation”. The legislator recalled that in March last year, Russia expressed its willingness to participate in the negotiation process, several meetings were held with representatives of Ukraine. However, the Ukrainian negotiators simply disappeared, “went off the radar, stopped responding to all ideas.” And then came Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s September decree banning any negotiations with Russia, he pointed out.
