St. Petersburg, April 8 – RIA Novosti. The first baby seal this year was rescued from the territory of a dam in St. Petersburg, Vodokanal of St. Petersburg reported. “The first pet, a very emaciated gray seal, was taken to the rescue center on the territory of the Vodokanal of St. Petersburg in the village of Repino. The weight of the cub is only 15 kilograms, and at the beginning of ‘an independent life’, the baby should weigh more than 40 kilograms. Only with such a mass does it not freeze in cold water and can learn to hunt fish, ”says the publication. Specialists from the Baltic Seal Friends Foundation will provide qualified assistance to the seal. Since 2013, the State Unitary Enterprise “Vodokanal of St. Petersburg” has been involved in the work to save marine mammals in the Baltic region. The opening of the first modern specialized center for the rehabilitation of marine mammals in Russia, including quarantine and adaptation blocks and outdoor swimming pools, took place in 2014. Employees of the facility were able to rescue and restore nature more than 130 seals and seals. The most famous area in the center is the male Ladoga ringed seal Kroshik. After his rehabilitation, they tried to release him back into the wild twice, but each time he came back. A few years later, Kroshik had a permanent neighbor – a male seal Ladoga Shlissik. He also “preferred” life on the territory of the center of Repino to the natural habitat.
