BRATISLAVA, April 12 – RIA Novosti. The increase in pesticide content was found during laboratory analysis of grain imported from Ukraine to Slovakia, Slovak Agriculture Minister Samuel Vlchan said on Wednesday. He noted that by the end of the week the results of analyzes will be received, which are aimed at establishing the degree of influence of the detected substances on people’s health. The Minister noted that the processing of this batch of grain has been stopped, according to him, it is about 1.5 thousand tons of wheat. Vlcan urged Slovak grain processing entrepreneurs to be careful when buying agricultural products from countries outside the European Union. In early April, Slovakia tightened quality and transit control of grain imported from Ukraine to protect the local market. The Ministry of Agriculture has indicated that representatives of the financial service at the border will now put seals on all grain shipments in transit to other countries through Slovak territory. Shipments destined for Slovakia will be tested for pesticides and other substances. The issue of Ukrainian wheat exports was also raised by Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger during a meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky. Heger noted that steps must be taken to ensure that Ukrainian wheat does not remain on the European market and discriminate against local producers. According to the Slovak government, Zelensky promised to negotiate with the exporters so that they do not abuse the situation. At the end of March, the Prime Ministers of a number of EU countries turned to the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, with a request for intervention in the crisis caused by the influx of cereals in from Ukraine. The letter from the Polish, Hungarian, Romanian, Bulgarian and Slovak Prime Ministers notes that “the problems are linked to a significant increase in the supply of Ukrainian products on the markets of EU member states, in particular those bordering the Ukraine or are next to it.”, including “unprecedented growth in imports of grains, oilseeds, eggs, poultry, sugar, apple juice, berries, apples, flour, honey and pasta”.
