MOSCOW, March 16 – RIA Novosti. The relationship between depression and cardiovascular risk in women has been described by scientists from the Tyumen Medical University (TMU). According to them, depressive disorders very often coexist with a whole range of dangerous pathologies of the heart, blood vessels and metabolic system. The results were published in the Russian Journal of Cardiology.Depressive and anxiety disorders are the most common mental disorders, which, according to experts, seriously impair the quality of life and contribute to the growth of disability in the same way as pathologies somatic. According to WHO experts, nearly 50% of the world’s population has seen signs of neuropsychiatric disorders at least once in their life. As the scientists explained, the identified relationship indicates the advisability of including depression tests in the examination plan for patients with hypertension. “For men, this correlation was not found, i.e. we see a clear gender component in the relationship between depressive disorders and metabolic disorders, which, of course, must be taken into account. account in clinical practice,” explained Efanov. As the study showed, hypertension and hypercholesterolemia are seen in patients with both visible and hidden levels of psychological disorders. Hypertensive patients who do not have depressive symptoms are much less likely to experience difficulty in normalizing pressure with the help of medication, the scientists reported. Women, according to the scientists, were statistically more likely to have obesity, as well as clinical and elevated symptoms. depression levels. People without signs of depression were statistically significantly younger, more often had an above-average level of education and lived in rural areas. A larger study of psychological disorders in patients with arterial hypertension, their detection and their timely correction will reduce the risk of development and mortality of cardiovascular diseases, specialists are sure of this.During the work, 1,658 people aged 25-64 years, living in Tyumen and the Tyumen region, were examined, reported scientists. Epidemiological research methods, tonometry, assessment of depression using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), laboratory blood tests were used. The university participates in the Priority program 2030.

The TMU team found in women a correlation between these psychological disorders and bodily pathologies such as metabolic syndrome, hypercholesterolemia and exacerbation of symptoms of high blood pressure.
“
“The metabolic syndrome involves a violation of fat and carbohydrate metabolism and a sharp increase in body weight, and a decrease in the control of arterial hypertension makes it difficult to manage its acute manifestations. Patients with depression are more susceptible to ‘have high blood pressure, high lipid levels and obesity,’ said Alexey Efanov, a professor in the Department of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery at Tyumensky Medical University.
As the researchers explained, the relationship identified indicates the advisability of including depression tests in the examination plan for patients with hypertension.
“For men, this correlation was not found, i.e. we see a clear gender component in the relationship between depressive disorders and metabolic disorders, which, of course, must be taken into account. account in clinical practice,” explained Efanov.
As the study showed, hypertension and high cholesterol levels are seen in patients with both visible and hidden levels of psychological disorders. Hypertensive patients who do not have depressive symptoms are much less likely to experience difficulty normalizing the pressure with the help of medication, the scientists reported.
According to the scientists, women were statistically more likely to suffer from obesity, as well as clinical and high levels of depression. People without signs of depression were statistically significantly younger, more likely to have above-average education, and lived in rural areas.
According to experts, a broader study of psychological disorders in patients with arterial hypertension, their timely detection and correction will reduce the risk of development and mortality from cardiovascular diseases.
During the work, 1,658 people aged 25-64 living in Tyumen and the Tyumen region were examined, scientists reported. Epidemiological research methods, tonometry, assessment of depression using the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), laboratory blood tests were used.
The research team’s next task is to expand the study and assess the impact of depression on cardiovascular health over a broader time horizon.
