CHISINAU, April 11 – RIA Novosti. Moldovan Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu and Republican Defense Minister Anatolia Nosatii are leaving this week for a working visit to Bucharest, where they will discuss with the Foreign and Defense Ministers of Romania and Ukraine the regional security, the press service of the Moldovan Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday. “From April 12 to 13, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu, together with Minister of Defense Anatolie Nosatii, will participate in a trilateral meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense of Romania, Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, to be held in Bucharest (…) Popescu will hold bilateral meetings with his Romanian counterpart Bogdan Aurescu, as well as with his Ukrainian counterpart Dmitry Kuleba, where topics such as regional security will be discussed,” the ministry said. According to the ministry, Popescu will also participate in a panel discussion within the Black Sea Security Conference. “The process of joining the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine to the EU, as well as the organization by our country of the summit of the European Political Community on June 1, 2023, will be discussed,” the ministry explained. The summit of the European Political Community will be held in Chisinau on June 1. The European Political Community (EPC) is an initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron and provides a platform for political dialogue and cooperation between EU and non-EU countries. The first EPC summit took place in the Czech Republic. The Heads of State and Government of the European Union meeting at the Brussels Summit on 23 June 2022 approved the granting of candidate status for accession to Ukraine and Moldova. To start negotiations, countries must meet a number of conditions, including reforms and strengthening the fight against corruption. At the same time, the majority of Moldovans are in favor of maintaining economic, political and cultural ties with the Russian Federation, according to a poll published on Monday by the Institute of Marketing and Sociological Surveys of the Republic. The survey also showed that more than half of Moldovans oppose the country’s exit from the CIS, that many citizens are dissatisfied with the standard of living and believe that the country’s leaders are guilty of raising the price of gas and electricity.
