PARIS, March 18 – RIA Novosti. Police began searching and detaining people in Place de la Concorde in Paris to prevent another spontaneous protest against the pension reform, the RIA Novosti correspondent reports. Earlier, French media reported that the police headquarters had banned demonstrations in Place de la Concorde after violent clashes between radical protesters and police took place there for two consecutive days. On Saturday evening, however, people began to gather in the square. The Jardin des Tuileries is closed to the public, the passage to the Champs Elysées is blocked by a water cannon. Special response teams are on duty around. The police are actively searching for people, asking for documents and arresting people. Police officers approach gathering groups with the words ‘disperse, protest is not approved, you will be fined’. On the eve of protests against pension reform in Paris, violent clashes between radicals and police began, a RIA Novosti correspondent reported. The radicals began to break down the repair structures that closed off two fountains in the square, tearing up planks and metal beams. They also dismantled the cobblestones and bombarded the police with cobblestones. Police used tear gas to disperse protesters. At least one policeman was injured and was taken away by other policemen. On Thursday, French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne used Article 49.3 of the French Constitution to push through a bill to raise the country’s retirement age from 62 to 64 without a vote in parliament. This approach provoked a wave of indignation among the deputies, who announced the “end of democracy”. The opposition has proposed a vote of no confidence in the government, it will be considered on Monday.
