PRAGUE, April 9 – RIA Novosti. For the first time in its strategic documents, the Czech Republic will name Russia and China as threats to its security, previously the documents included such vague formulations as, for example, “certain states”, Czech radio reported on Saturday, quoting Jan Ires, a senior defense official. Currently, employees of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are working on documents that define the positions, ambitions and plans of the Czech Republic in the field of security and defense policy. “The two documents, the security strategy and the defense strategy, will clearly indicate the sources of the greatest threats to the republic. In addition to terrorism, these will be Russia and China,” quoted Czech radio Ires, which is Director of the Department of Defense Policy and Strategy of the Ministry of Defense and is responsible for updating the documents of the Military Department. After updating the two main documents, work will follow on others, including the “Long-Term Defense Perspective” and the “Concept for Building the Czech Army”. “Current versions of these documents are outdated… They vaguely mention ‘certain states seeking to revise the existing international order’ and also speak of the Russian Federation, which ‘openly pursues its ambitions for power in the east of Europe, including by using military force”, but this is not a direct indication of Russia as a threat to the security of the Czech Republic”, notes the Czech radio. Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24. President Vladimir Putin called its goal “the protection of people who have been victims of intimidation and genocide by the kyiv regime for eight years.”
