Driverless bus hits pedestrians in Shymkent
ALMA-ATA, April 8 – RIA Novosti. A driverless bus rolled down a slope and hit pedestrians in the city of Shymkent, in southern Kazakhstan: four people died, two others were hospitalized with injuries.
“On April 8, at around 6:30 p.m. (3:30 p.m. Moscow time) at the intersection of two streets near the Metro shopping center, a bus without driver control, having entered the oncoming lane of traffic, hit six pedestrians who were on the sidewalk,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a press release the republics.
In an accident, two women and a teenager died on the spot, the girl died in intensive care. Two other people are in the hospital.
Investigators found that the driver at the last stop on the route got off the bus and left it on the handbrake. At this moment, the bus descends the slope and hits the pedestrians.
A criminal case was opened, a review of the serviceability of the bus was appointed. The driver was placed in a remand center.
